Wang Yangming’s “to be a friend” thinking and its moral value

Abstract
“Go to be a friend” is the main theme of Wang Yangming’s study in his late years, and it is also the simplest comprehensive study of Wang Yangming’s own mental thinking. The proposal of the “to be a friend” thinking is a certain result of Wang Yangming’s own thinking evolution, but he also experienced a difficult mental journey. “To be a friend” comes from the combination of “to be a friend” in “Big Learning” and the concept of “to be a friend” in “Mencius”, and Wang Yangming gave it richer connotations. Wang Yangming’s “to be a friend” thinking demonstrates the value of morality, establishes the position of morality, and at the same time promotes the energy of unity of knowledge and action.

Wang Yangming was a famous thinker in the Ming Dynasty and established the system’s mind system. Among them, “to be a confidant” is the focus of Wang Yangming’s mind thinking. The proposal of this destiny marks the final completion of Wang Yangming’s mind system, and is also the perfection and mature appearance of Wang Yangming’s mind thinking. This article will remind the structure of this issue from the development process of Wang Yangming’s own thinking, and then analyze its actual content and moral value.
1. Proposing the idea of ”to be a friend”
“To be a friend” is the main theme of Wang Yangming’s study in his late years, and it is also the simplest combination of Wang Yangming’s own mental thinking. In the Ming Dynasty, Liu Zongzhou, a great scholar in the Ming Dynasty, said: “The teachings of a close friend are as high as the sun. The ancients said: ‘The heaven does not give birth to Zhongni, and thousands of years are like long nights.’ However, after three thousand years, the teacher and the chief teacher are not reborn, and who will wash away the Xianchi with the help of the sun?… After Confucius and Mencius were immersed in their hearts, they immersed themselves in the words of Buddha, old, Xun and Yang. Although the great scholars of Cheng and Zhu Zun said that the Ming Buddhism was correct, they did not have any strength, but Later, he was retracted to the training and redirected to the branches and left, and often analyzed the mind and reason as two. The harder it was to seek the Tao, and the farther it was to go, the sage became the ultimate virtue. If this is the case, it will be buried for hundreds of years.” Jiuchuan said, “It is also because the Confucians of the Song Dynasty have developed from the perspective of knowledge and understanding, and they know the spirit as their nature, so their knowledge is getting more and more difficult to block the way. It can be seen that Wang Yangming’s “to be a confidant” is not easy, and it is also a certain result from the process of his own thinking and evolution. The development of Wang Yangming’s own thinking is divided into two stages, and its boundary line is the dragon’s enlightenment. Cai Renhou, a famous new Confucian scholar in Taiwan, believes that the previous stage was Wang Yangming’s “self-discovery” process, and the next stage was Wang Yangming’s “self-complete” process [4]. Before the Dragon Boat’s enlightenment, Mo Dehong combined the transformation and development of Wang Yangming’s thoughts into the previous “three changes”.
